Have any questions about all things you need to know about newborn photography in Bristol?

If you have never experienced a newborn photoshoot before, rest assured I (your photographer Sophie!) will be on hand to guide you through the entire process.

Here are some common questions expectant parents ask about the newborn photography process. But for anything else, please don’t hesitate to contact me and I’ll be in touch.

When Is It Recommended To Schedule Your Newborn Photoshoot?

I recommend booking your newborn session just after your 20-week scan, we can then decide on a provisional date for your session which is usually a week after your due date. I will keep in touch with you during the run-up to your baby’s birth. I’ll also allow enough space in my diary to adjust the date of your session if we need to, depending on when your baby decides to arrive.

What To Expect From Your Newborn Photo Shoot

I have a gorgeous client wardrobe for both you and your baby. We will arrange a pre-session consultation a few weeks before your shoot where we will plan everything together, discuss the styling, and what to expect on the day. I can also answer any questions you may have.

Newborn photoshoots are normally held in my studio where family members are invited to get involved too. I will create a calm and relaxing experience for you, a few hours of feeling beautiful with your little dot, capturing the first part of your journey together.

Do Hospitals Offer Newborn Photography?

Depending on where you give birth, your hospital may offer photography, and of course, your partner or family will likely want to take some snaps soon after birth too.

However, as noted above, I personally prefer to perform newborn photography in the peace and tranquillity of my photography studio. Beyond ensuring your baby will be relaxed, there are actually quite a few benefits for mums, partners or families in doing newborn shoots in a dedicated environment.

Namely, you will have had a moment to breathe and refresh after giving birth, so that you can fully enjoy the experience. As we will have already discussed the styling in advance, you can also be sure you will feel your most confident and beautiful for the images on the day. For myself as a professional photographer and a mum myself, it’s really important to help get this right for you.

Plus, a professional photoshoot takes the pressure off whoever is in the delivery room to help you select the most flattering and nurturing angles of your precious bundle. So don’t worry if you require ‘take two’ from what you took at the hospital – as you’re more than welcome to join in the shoot!

How To Position Your Newborn For The Photoshoot

One of the main advantages of hiring a professional photographer for your newborn photoshoot is that we will take care of all the finer details for you. As well as discussing your ideas for the shoot in advance, on the day we will ensure your baby is comfortable and photographed from all the right angles that we know you’d most like to treasure – from those tiny yawns to those deep looks of love.
